#84: The Iron Lady (2011)

“The 2012 Movie challenge . To watch at least 150 movies I have never seen before during this year.”
Movie #84 – 07 May 2012
The Iron Lady (UK – 2011) Directed by Phyllida Lloyd
Apple tv

The Iron Lady has (a few) merits and many (many) issues. The presence of a true talent like Meryl Streep is definitely a merit. She is The Iron Lady. She is the movie. Just look at the footages of the real Margaret Thatcher and gasp by admiring the fine details, voice, gestures and posture. It is the ability only the greatest actors have. The Iron Lady is also (and most of all) a film of wasted opportunities, one of those movies full of expectations betrayed by a lackluster script. Abi Morgan (the writer) decided only to scratch the surface of Margaret Thatcher, “the woman”. She did not go deep. And this is a big issue. Going deep would have made the difference. Shame.
