#66: 50/50 (2011)

“The 2012 Movie challenge . To watch at least 150 movies during this year.”
Movie #66 – 02 April 2012
50/50 (USA – 2011) Directed by Jonathan Levine
Apple TV

50/50 deals with the cancer issue while keeping the funny aspects of the situation and the drama that the theme implies. As in other similar films (more recently the last Gus Van Sant work), we have the usual element of family conflicts, difficult (if not absent) dialogues with parents (only one in this case).
Despite the risks lurking, The Directors managed to run a successful and engaging dramedy (drama/comedy). Fifty fifty, as the 50% chance of surviving the neurofibroma sarcoma schwannoma affecting the poor Adam. At the end the film decides to answer the initial question: which one of the 50% will win? The ending would ave been more effective and poetic if everything had stopped just a few minutes before, with the expectation of friends and relatives worried about the outcome of the operation. Perhaps the movie would have been better respected by critics. Not a bad movie. Not bad at all.
