#32: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)Posted: February 1, 2012 | |
“The 2012 Movie challenge . To watch at least 150 movies during this year.”
Movie #32 – 31 January 2012
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (UK – 2011) Directed by Tomas Alfredson
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, on my second view, confirms all its qualities. Under the glacial eye of Tomas Alfredson (the director of the excellent Let the Right One In – the Swedish original version – not the unnecessary American remake), the film becomes a merry go round of names and situations, flashbacks and references, where it is easy to get lost. Very little is explained, while some of the most important events are only hinted at. This is an exciting game, a hunt for a spy seasoned with heady fragrances, messy rooms, smoking and alcohol. Gary Oldman (who in my opinion is one of the most underrated actors of our history) – who plays Smiley – gives an inscrutable and even tender performance. The soundtrack is excellent. The performances outstanding. A movie definitely not for everyone but very rewarding. And it is only Tomas Alfredson second movie.
